An Experiment With Boston Market Cupcakes

Last Friday my coworkers and I went to Boston Market for lunch where we were surprised to discover that they'd started selling cupcakes.  Amai bought a four-pack containing two chocolate cupcakes and two Neapolitan cupcakes.  We were just about to open them up and eat them when Amai noticed that there was an expiration date printed on top of the box: "Use By Jan 15 09".  Yes, you read that correctly.  Jan 15 09 -- that's an expiration date of  one hundred and thirty nine days.

We decided to conduct a little experiment.  One cupcake would be put in a tupperware container and placed in my freezer.  The other would sit in the original packaging on my desk at work (a cool, air-conditioned office).  We'd take a picture of the latter every week until Jan 15, 2009, and if it still looked edible on that date, we'd eat it, along with the one in the freezer.

So here's the first set of pics.  Stay tuned to see how our preservative-laden cupcakes fare.
