Big Update and "Duplicates"

Things have been quite busy here at CupcakeFetish over the past couple of days.  For those of you who pay attention to our statistics, you may have noticed the number of stores in our database creep up from the high three hundreds to 614, and the number of countries jump from 13 to 16.  Over the past two days I've entered almost 200 new stores into our system.  This particular update took me almost forty hours, half of which was spent tracking down the contact information of various bakeries.  About 75% of the websites I come across don't list their store hours, and 10% don't even list the city and state they serve.  If any of you bakery owners out there got a call in the past week from a woman wanting to know your store hours, it was probably me.  The last time I did a major update I posted some tips for cupcake store websites; if every website followed Tips 1 and 2, it would make my life a lot easier. =)

The ladies over at Cupcakes Take the Cake often point out "duplicates" - unrelated bakeries that share the same name.  I'm really confused as to why bakeries out there aren't trademarking their names.  The paperwork is relatively straightforward (there's even an online application), and it only costs $325 per class (I'm guessing that most bakeries would file in International Class 0043 - Hotels and Restaurants).  By going through this simple process, bakeries can ensure that no other companies use their name (in that class).  Why NOT trademark??
